Mac OS 10.5 is here but no SSM support
Well Apple latest operating system, Mac OS 10.5 (codename Leopard), is finally here but unlike Windows Vista, there does seemed to be any Source Specific Multicast support added.
There is no sign of the Multicast Source Filter API (RFC3678) in the /usr/includes directory. Search for MCAST_JOIN_GROUP or MCAST_JOIN_SOURCE_GROUP on Build version 9A581, doesn’t return any results. So no IGMPv3 or MLDv2 for Mac OS X…
Additionally IPv6 stack still seems to be based on a very old version of Kame:
sysctl net.inet6.ip6.kame_version
net.inet6.ip6.kame_version: 20010528/apple-darwin
Very disappointing Apple
is no one updating this Blog or fromt page anymore ?
lost interest or other reasons ?
thats a shame, as we NEED all the UK IPv6 information we (the end users being stuck on G3 IPv4 blocked ports)can get our hands on TODAY, i find the http://go6.net/4105/freenet.asp client to be very effective for bypassing the UK ISPs restrictions on many things, Multicast etc….
we NEED a real long term UK free to end users IPv6 server that also does Multicast end points, and perhaps a little webspace to run our “rebol view” scripts and store a few AVC commuity video’s with the whole IPv6 tunnel world users.
how about muticast.org setting SOMETHING up for us VM and G3 customers to use and later expand my proposed free UK IPv6/Muticast tunnels,10gig free “rebol view” scripts, hosting service into a *payed for services later ?
* UK paypal,£1 a minute high rate phone calls to pay for it directly into your account etc,for those that dont have banks, credit etc…..
